Evaluation

The way the film was done from top to bottom was nothing short of excellence as every scene had something to give you a feeling, whether one liked it or not. The film would use its run time efficiently to establish Arthur’s story becoming Joker in a realistic way that is too close for comfort.

The way Joker used Phillips’ idea of 1980s New York as the setting place of Gotham worked perfectly to depict the city as lost and falling apart. The streets were always dirty in one way or another, with trash everywhere or just cop cars in the background.

Also, the cinematography helped portray Gotham as being a city in trouble. The lighting in the film was dark but the times it would be a little bit of a lighter color, it would have it in a way where the shot would complement the feeling of eerie or discomfort it would try to convey.

The music did just as much as Phoenix did in portraying the emotion of Arthur throughout the movie. There were several times that a scene would not be as complete if they chose a different song like the ironic choice of “Rock and Roll Part 2” It helps give a completely new understanding in each scene.

The themes the film presented were presented in such a way that many can find too realistic that can frighten one into taking the message to heart. The way that Arthur’s story could be easily followed that could be possible for a normal person really helped keep people invested and talking about it even when the film was over.
