Description

The movie stars actor Joaquin Phoenix who plays Arthur Fleck and won multiple awards because of his performance. Fleck is a mentally ill, wannabe comic who becomes increasingly corrupted every day until the point where he snaps and becomes known as the Joker. On Phoenix’s path to get ready for the role, he had to endure many challenges both physically and mentally. Some of those challenges listed in an article by looper were weight loss, isolation, his laugh, and living with uncertainty. He would persevere through and describe his experience rather than what others would think of the challenge in an interview with Metro.

“I want to say it was super hard,” he said. “But it was so inspiring, that as much energy I put into it, [the role] gave it back. (Floorwalker 2020).

The soundtrack for the film was composed by none other than Emmy award winner Hildur Guðnadóttir. She also won multiple awards for her scores in the film. Guðnadóttir’s soundtrack has a total of 17 songs that are all played at least once in the movie. The runtime of the soundtrack is 36 minutes and 26 seconds. The soundtrack had five main genres for the music: Ambient, Contemporary classical, Dark ambient, Film score, and Minimal. Director of the film, Todd Phillips early on viewed Guðnadóttir’s music to be crucial to the film as he explained in an interview featured on Music Film Central.

“I was sending her script pages and she was writing music before we even shot, and what she did for the film is so unique” (O’Brien 2019).
