John 16: 5-11
The disciples are worried about Jesus telling them that he must leave, but Jesus knows before it happens that it all must happen for their sake, meaning once again that Jesus is omniscient. Later in verse seven, he describes that the “helper” will not come to help them if he does not die and that it would be worse for them. This may lead us to believe that the helper is referring to the Holy Spirit. This is true, as people would be more convinced of God’s presence being real as Jesus is now gone and the disciples are still following his teachings. In the next verse, Jesus says he will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment for sin because they do not believe in him. This shows the division that people have put in place with God because of their actions that God sees as sinful. Each of the five religions we have covered has some similar division between their people and their deities. Since all three—Judaism, Islam, and Christianity—follow remarkably similar principles and events, I will just group them as the Abrahamic religions in this instance. People would sin, and God would punish them with hell, as it was their separation from him because of that sin. Hinduism differs in that, instead of going to hell, people were too ignorant, which kept them reincarnated in this pattern of life.
