Defining my Stakeholders

My client for this assignment is OU Recruitment Services. OU Recruitment Services’s main goal and mission are pretty obvious, to recruit and retain prospective students to OU.

One of my stakeholders is a prospective student that is a junior/senior in high school that has an ACT/SAT score range of 26-32/1250-1600, and is from the Northeast United States. This stakeholder has an interest in working public relations or advertising for sports. This stakeholder also attends sporting events and is interested in watching basketball, gymnastics and football mainly. They’re also interested in softball and tennis.

My second stakeholder is a parent that has a college degree from UT Austin, makes $250,000-450,000 a year and lives in the pacific Western United States. They work in the film and media industry and their prospective student is interested in a similar field. They are interested in athletics such as football, gymnastics and tennis.

It’s important to identify targeted stakeholders because what you say to convince someone who lives less than three hours away from OU vs. someone who lives 18 hours away is different. You want to highlight the best programs and amenities OU has to offer to both stakeholders, but you’d want to highlight the culture and highlight how different OU is from other schools.

Shaping my messaging is the most important part of the job. I want to get as many students from my desired Northeastern and Western regions who are less likely to attend OU due to the distance and costs for traveling and out-of-state tuition. I would invite my first stakeholder to the spring football game to see the culture of OU along with the sports atmosphere. For my second stakeholder, I’d invite them to a sporting event OU is competing in on the pacific west coast.
