The past weekend was quite interesting, to say the least. It was the biggest football game of the year, and my date and I planned to leave on Friday morning. He woke up with an extremely sore throat, so after about an hour and a half of feeding him soup, jell-o, and hot tea, he decided he was ready to go.
After we got into the car with our friends, I realized that he was not feeling very well. He fell asleep almost immediately and slept for the entire ride. When we stopped at Whataburger, he was shivering, and I knew that he might have a fever. As soon as we got to the hotel, he fell asleep for another five hours. His friends came and went, checking up on him to see if he was okay, but he did not wake up.
At around 7 pm on Friday, we decided there was no way we could stay for the game. We called an Uber and drove to his house. I was nervous because I had never talked to his family before, nor had I visited the neck of the woods he was from. I knew it would be okay.
When we got to his house, I spent a lot of time with his family, which was wonderful. I got to know a lot more about him and his familial values, and his family was extremely hospitable towards me. After awhile, he went to the doctor, and was diagnosed with strep throat. He is no longer contagious, but he still feels under the weather, so I have been taking care of him to make sure he gets better.
I realized a lot about myself this weekend. I take care of those around me, and I cherish the relationships I’ve built. I just hope he feels better soon.
