LHS Homecoming

Homecoming means coming home to what is in your heart.” – Unknown

I am very well known but not as popular as you think. I only say that because I am the person that is amazed by how lucky I am to know lots of people in my life. That included a core memory of senior year being on homecoming court in 2020. I loved how I was shocked when they named the nominees on the intercom. My name was on the court. I was appalled at how many people voted for me to be on homecoming. I called my sister Samantha while she was working. I told her I was on homecoming. She was full of joy when I told her and told more of my family that I was on homecoming. I loved the people that were on homecoming. Including; Khalil Reed, Haylee Craig, Caitlynn McConnell Smith, and more people. The nominees on homecoming were on scream team and student council. I was only in National Honor Society as president and Orchestra. I loved my time on homecoming, and before the half-time show, I asked my mother if she could escort me on the field. She was excited about escorting her oldest son during the crowning. She walked with me on the field and was happy to be there that night.

I didn’t win the crowning however had a good time, and I felt more open with myself. I also gained a lot of confidence that night. The night was October 22, 2020. Never in a million years to be voted on homecoming with lots of votes from people from my senior class. My friends were either a lower grade than me or above me. I loved how some seniors in my senior class voted for me to be on homecoming. Even my best friend Vanessa, who didn’t attend my high school, saw that I was on homecoming. She knew that I was there among the nomination candidates. I forever will cherish homecoming and what made me be this character of me being confident in my skin. Even coming to OU made me open to more involvement and being me.

During the homecoming assembly days before the crowning, we had to do a voiceover of a question. The question was, “How have you seen Loyalty, Honor, and Spirit at Lawton High School?

This was my speech

Loyalty, Honor and Spirit are the three main key elements of being a true Wolverine at Lawton High School. How I’ve seen Loyalty is being together through the bad times, and bringing joy, love and empathy. Especially, when our Wolverine nation comes as a community when a fellow wolverine is in need. I’ve seen Honor by seeing our traditions coming back. For example, our reputation that evokes our wolverine spirit, our tenacity to never giving up when facing obstacles and finding a solution to overcome them. I’ve seen Spirit by bringing our fun side of us. To include, our Spirit Week, our hallway decoration, and our annual fall festivals. No matter the age, or grade we are in, Loyalty, Honor and Spirit are not just ordinary words. They have more meaning here at Lawton High School, and this is what it means to be a true Wolverine.
