“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” – William Shakespeare
My senior year has been the best in high school. I love it because I go from a really shy freshman to a senior where I became confident a lot, and very involved. My favorite moment of senior year is my Senior Farewell, and Awards concert. I loved it because it was the concert that made me love music and the memories that I made with the orchestra. Every year when I played every senior farewell when other seniors graduated, I was so emotional because I loved every senior that graduated before me.
4 other seniors graduated with me from the orchestra. Many include Symon Chapman, Zachary Collier, Makayla Jackson, and Keegan Jenderseck. We played a lot of songs that night. Many include Vortex by Robert Longfield, Japanese Lullaby by Keiko Yamada, Dragonhunter by Richard Meyer, and many others that night.
My orchestra teacher, Mrs. Kathy Liticker asked me to play my viola solo because that got me a 1 which is superior at solo and ensemble. My solo was Telemann Viola Concerto in G Major, 4th movement, presto.
Before playing the other songs, Mrs. Liticker gave out senior gifts and a yellow flower signifying to remember her. It was her last year in Lawton Public Schools before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas. She gave me a yellow flower and a watch that was so beautiful. I was the last person mentioned in her senior dedication. She was saying how I took private lessons, I was the music librarian, and exceeded of being her orchestra student should do.
After the concert was done, I was putting some music away in the library, and one of my good friends Jasmine was crying. I told her it’s okay, I’m here, I got you. I hugged her tightly and comforted her that night. She was sad that I was leaving, but I told her that I’m not going far. I told her I’m not leaving Oklahoma, I’m going to OU. So I’ll still be nearby to see your concert next year. Jasmine was one of the best second violin player, and people to be around.
She sent me a text message after the concert saying, “Hey, whatever happens, I want you to know that I will miss you and that I hope great things happen to you in your life when you leave. I hope that we can be closer as friends and that you can come back one day”.
