Move-In Day

August 12, 2021

A week before, August 5, the last day of working at Walmart for 2 years. I honestly was shocked about leaving my Walmart family that I have known for the last 2 years. To be honest, from all of the holidays, to even Food Stamp Days, they were something. Anyways, I find out when my move-in date was which was August 12. So I packed the day before, and before me and my mother woke up super early to get where we were needed to go which was Boren. I find out where I lived three days before. So knowing my luck, it was the stress that was going through my head. Then we head to Norman the morning of and saw the amazing Lloyd Noble Center where there were a lot of other students. I was excited to move in because I was excited to meet my roommate for the first time. Then we headed to Boren where I live, and before we went inside me and my mother prayed for the journey that was ahead of me. I told my mother that I do not want my roommate to snore which is my biggest pet peeve, and to not be messy (the snoring part check, the messy part not so much).

Then we head inside Boren to get my keys, and met my RA Ruiqi Wei. Then we headed to my room and get unpacked. I looked on the other side of the room and saw what the name was, which his name is Josh. Then some random stranger with some girl and his mother came into our room (Let me mind you, my mother and I had on masks, so we didn’t do a face reveal until they left). Not to be racist, I was expecting another kid that was not the same skin color as me. Knowing my luck, Josh was Hispanic, so it was interesting. We did our introductions of ourselves and just carried on. I asked if he was from Oklahoma, and they said, “I’m from Texas, you?” I said, “I’m from Oklahoma”. Then did more ice-breakers of what his major was which he’s going for Mechanical Engineering, and asked what my major was. I said, “I’m a music education major” (changed my major to Public Relations months after). So we did and met his mom, and apparently, it was his girlfriend that we met too.

After that, they left back to Texas, where Josh worked some more hours to get more money. He did not attend Camp Crimson, however, I did. I had the whole room for myself for 10 days straight until the day before classes started which was August 22. Knowing my luck, he texted me super early when I was sleeping, and texted “I should have told you earlier but I’ll be on campus in around an hour I’m currently heading there”. So I was generous to get Insomnia Cookies the night before, and said “If you like I got some Insomnia Cookies”. He texted, “My family is gonna help put some stuff down, and we’re heading up right now”.

Knowing my luck, I disinfected the whole room with Lysol and had a mask on as well. When the keys went into the lock, I was in my bed, just sitting and meeting more of his family. Then Josh, a man, and another woman came in with him. It was his dad and his aunt that I met that day. After a few hours, he came back to the dorm, and I did a face reveal. I apologized to him for having a mask on but had to be done especially during a pandemic. Other than that, I am not complaining about him at all being my roommate. To say the least, we respect each other’s differences.
