THX

When I was a kid, I always watched a lot of Disney movies growing up. When I was around 10, I had a huge fear of THX. For those who do not know what THX is, THX Ltd. is an American company founded in 1983 by George Lucas and headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops the “THX” high fidelity audio/visual reproduction standards for movie theaters, screening rooms, home theaters, computer speakers, gaming consoles, car audio systems, and video games.

One of the things about THX that absolutely terrified me was the THX Deep Note. Just about anyone who has been in a cinema, car, or live event knows the THX Deep Note. It is the deeply resonant chord that plays at the start of any THX Certified performance. The THX Deep Note was composed by Lucasfilm sound engineer Dr. James ‘Andy’ Moorer and was screened at the start of the 1983 premiere of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. In 2015, Dr Moorer refreshed the THX Deep Note and made it even more spell-binding for modern cinema formats. It remains one of the most recognizable sonic identities in the world.

Absolutely scared me a lot when I was a child.
