About Me (PR)

Hello, my name is Luis Alfaro (he/him/his). My personal branding statement that I live by is “I am a committed, dedicated and passionate individual who achieves goals with success.”

Some of my qualifications I obtain are strong communication skills, teamwork and leadership. Times when I had strong communications skills would be when I worked retail at Walmart Corporation back in my hometown. I worked as a Front-End Associate and had many tasks. They included but not limited to: checking out customers, being respectful to my supervisors and managers and asking questions to make sure that I was doing my job correctly. Having leadership would have to be at this moment as a Student Discussion Leader for Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. I hold one discussion class every week, and I have 12 students who engage with me who are also majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication. There are five majors in Gaylord College, which include: Advertising, Journalism, Professional Writing, Creative Media Productions and Public Relations. Another career that I’ve had with another qualification of teamwork would be my time when I was a guest speaker back in my hometown. I asked to give a presentation to the whole eighth-grade class. There were more than 200 students in an auditorium with not only them, but the teachers I had when I was in middle school.

I am from Lawton, Oklahoma. I am a public relations major with a minor in classics at the University of Oklahoma at Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Why I chose OU is the atmosphere, and the population of how diverse it is here. I honestly love my time here at the University of Oklahoma. I love the memories I’ve made. I come from a house of 12 kids, and I am number eight out of 12. I am of Hispanic heritage. So, expectations are very high for me. My mother has always said to at least try, and that’s all that matters. No, but honestly, I am happy that OU is my home. I have good relationships with my friends and professors. I love that they are understanding, and they’re so judgment-free of their students, whether I’m in Dale Hall for American Federal Government, or in Sarkey’s Energy Center with only 14-18 students. At least I can make a relationship with my instructors and professors. I love my time here. I would not change it for the world.
