The first blog post of 2025
I just took my HTML quiz and dang that was hard. I completely forgot a lot of the main elements of HTML code (not that I was great at them in the first place) and I feel a little stupid I’m not going to lie. I think that I am going to struggle a little bit to wrap my head around all of these elements. I know that I can modify a skeleton code if I need to, but also that I can always find an online “how to” to quickly figure out what I’m missing.
I know that I have skills that will help me in my post-grad career. The first thing is that I make an excellent spreadsheet and know how to digest data to find a story, but I wish I could have spent more time building visualizations of that data. I love using numbers to tell interesting and thought-provoking stories, so I feel a little limited in my ability to do what I want when I have a lead I want to follow.
During the reading, I noticed that since the book was written in 2022 it still calls the social media site X, “twitter.com” (the .com is also really funny to me.) This may seem like a small thing, but it points to the ever-changing nature of the internet and internet culture. Another thing that I noticed, and really found interesting, was the use of sitemaps. These large connections of a website help to map what connects with what and I found them weirdly visually appealing.
This is an example from the textbook of a sitemap:

As someone who likes flowcharts (see the image below that is just on my desktop at all times), I think it makes sense that I would like a sitemap and that it does make a bit of sense to me.
