As I was researching for one of my Prelims, I came across this movie as the perfect example regarding my topic. Twins.
“Despicable Me 3” is the trilogy of the infamous series, “Despicable Me”. I’m sure this movie is a childhood favorite, so I won’t be going into too much detail about the summary. All in all, in this movie, we meet Gru’s twin brother – who looks and acts differently than him.
This book relates to my essay topic and hence is why I choose to rewatch it! Gru and Dru – his twin – are so similar yet different. This movie has a lot of backstory for the two brothers, and it is clear why they both grew up in different environments. Gru was living with his mother while Dru was with his father – both twins being separated at birth. Since their father was a mastermind villain, Dru got to inherit all of his weapons and devices meant for villainy. While Gru had to start from the bottom and earn his name of “best villain” in the other movies.
Despite having such a luxurious life, Dru is lonely, has no partner or children – only himself. Meanwhile Gru is happily married with 3 children. Both brothers are so similar yet so different. Their existence drives the plot forward with both having such differing personalities and solutions for their obstacles. As all movies do, they both sort out their differences in the end, and we see them part ways respectfully.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post! I hope to see you again next week!
