Hi. Something that has, for some reason, been very prevalent in culture and society is one’s music taste. We all want to share the music we find but while it should be easier to share that music now more than ever, I personally find it somewhat difficult. Yeah, people can just go around recommending artists and such, but the last two dozen times it’s happened to me I literally forget what they recommend half an hour later. Additionally, I’m not going to go around campus bugging people walking around wearing earbuds because I want new music to listen to, but I know deep down I want someone to come to ask what I’m listening to because that’s just the narcissist in me.

To keep this short instead of rambling I’m going to just share some music I own and listen to on vinyl. I’m not some insufferable indie-head that collects every popular record I can, I just get albums I actually like because I have a knack for valuing materialistic objects, sentimental or not.

The album cover for Adrianne Lenker’s LP, Songs (2020). The artwork was painted by her grandmother, Diane Lee.

This is one of my favorite albums. Adrianne Lenker’s Songs. I remember listening to this album on repeat surrounding the days I spent with my family in St. Louis when my grandmother was drifting away. As emotional as this album makes me, I don’t think I have even quite taken what I can from it just yet. Every listen comes with new appreciation, and reading how it was written makes me feel connected to this album more than any other. As already interesting as she is, I love learning more about Lenker as a singer/songwriter and will never stop listening to her solo experiments like this, as well as her band, Big Thief, where most of her followers know her from.

The album cover for Destroyer’s 2XLP, Poison Season (2015). The photo was taken by Fabiola Caranza.

This is another favorite of mine, Destroyer’s Poison Season (2015). While Destroyer as a band might not be everyone’s cup of tea, this is one of their albums that I think everyone can get the most enjoyment out of. For me, this is an album I love taking walks to. Song to song, the record just makes me want to keep listening and in turn, keep walking. That’s not all I love this album for though, the melodies of this rock escapism are satisfyingly glorious. Please give this a try, or at least try tracks like “The River”, or “Times Square” most of all.

That’s it for this post I guess. Thanks?
