Just don’t do it, it’s not worth it.
Don’t even buy games at launch anymore, wait like a week.
And if you’re still not sure wait a month.
I can’t count the times I’ve bought a new title for $60 after being excited for it, being pleased for about half a day, and then not touching the game only to be reminded of its existence when I see that it’s going for $20 on a random sale I didn’t even know about. My worst encounter with buying new games came just last year with Battlefield 2042 (2021). $70 at launch because Sony is such a great company, and now $10 today, because EA DICE forgot how to develop good video games. It sits on my shelf taunting me, but I keep it there as a reminder of not to do that to myself ever again. The Division 2 (2019), Hitman III (2021), Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), all great games, but I feel my experience with those titles would remain identical had I bought them months later from their release, and saved 20+ dollars.
Not only do preorders affect our wallets, they affect the games themselves, giving developers an incentive to rush games out unfinished, and promise to fix their issues at a later date. It can work, but with releases like Cyberpunk 2077 (2020), Fallout 76 (2018), and the before mentioned Battlefield 2042, it only proves that developers will do anything to get those preorders up when they know their game runs like shit.
Thanks for reading. End of rant.
