Compared to 20, 10 or just even 5 years ago, the video game industry has gone through high levels of growth and development, and continues to stretch to a scale beyond other forms of entertainment.
In 2015, the industry released 2500 video games. 2022 alone saw 10,963 games being released (statista).
This kind of growth is one of the main reasons to why I’m drawn to this industry. I ask myself how many of these games are people including me missing out on. What does it take to make sure the developers and creators making real innovations for the medium to reach the audience they deserve?
With the rapid growth of video games, I would say as an outsider; one of the most crucial aspects the industry is the publishers and devs’ effectiveness in reaching an audience and building connections with their communities. Video game advertising and public relations is not a new thing, and for an industry producing a product consumed worldwide, it’s more than necessary. I believe the failure or success of a game relies heavily on not just the visions of its creators, but their voice, and how loud it is.
