For this blog, I decided to make it less about me, and I wanted to take time to write about someone who is not only my boyfriend and best friend, but is also someone has saved other people too. He does so much for me and in a way has brought a piece of me to life, and additionally has physically saved others. His name is Trevor Marlar. His official job title is an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) who is currently in paramedic school and has been in the field for 2 years. Marlar works for Pafford, which is an EMS (Emergency Medical Services) ambulance service. His daily responsibilities during work include stocking the truck with medical supplies before they go on a call with things such as medicines, IVs, bandages, and other valuables used to help those who may need it. Other responsibilities involve receiving medical calls, getting the patient’s location, and driving the Pafford ambulance to assist them. Once arrived, Marlar and his team must do various tests and question the patient if they do not already know what is wrong. The weekly time commitment for Trevor typically runs about two 24-hour shifts a week. Additionally, some other industries for work in this field are other ambulance services such as EMSTAT, EMSA, and Wadley’s.
Marlar’s inspiration towards this career was knowing other friends and family members in the field, along with striving for the opportunity to help people and not knowing what may come. Something that he likes the most about his profession is helping people and getting to hang out with his friends when they are not receiving any calls. Some hardships about Marlar’s profession are that there can be hard things to witness, followed by the fact that not everyone is nice. An EMT-B license is the minimum to become certified, but you can continue schooling to get an EMT-A license to eventually get a degree in licensure and paramedicine. Lastly, Trevor’s final quote to become successful is “Never stop learning and keep a good attitude.”
