In the thrilling movie Split, the main character Kevin, has a rare disease known as DID or dissociative identity disorder. This disease has caused him to create twenty-three different personalities and one unknown personality that he claims is stronger than all the others. Kevin’s DID is explained as a result of past trauma. Growing up he was psychically abused by his mother and later left by his father. These personalities have become the alter egos of the real Kevin as a result of these traumatic experiences. The most notable personalities are, Dennis, Patricia, Hedwig, and The Beast. Because of this disease and the different personalities desires, Kevin or should I day Dennis, kidnaps three teenage girls and holds them hostage. During this time, each personality starts to unveil itself to these three girls. Dennis is the one who has been given the “light” which means he appears the most. Patricia is second in command to Dennis and helps control who gets the “light.” Hedwig is a nine-year-old boy who is given the “light” frequently and is also who the girls try to use to escape since his mind isn’t fully developed. Lastly, The Beast is the strongest one out of all of them. He only appears at the end of the movie when all the other personalities have given up control and given him the “light.” Kevin’s alter egos allow him to be many different people whenever he pleases. However, often times these egos are all fighting against each other for the “light.” In the end, it becomes too much for Kevin to take on the identity of each ego and The Beast takes on the formation of all twenty-three at once.
