In the popular movie “Barbie” there is a sense of doubling when Barbie discovers the “Real World” apart from “Barbie World.” Barbie’s entire existence has been in Barbie World where everything is perfect, and nothing goes wrong. There are never any tears or other emotions besides happiness. However, when strange things start to happen to her in Barbie World, she begins to question what is wrong and looks to Weird Barbie to answer these questions. Weird Barbie describes how back in the Real World something must be happening with the human Barbie once belonged to. In order to fix this issue Barbie must enter the Real World, find her human, and fix what has been broken. Upon entering the Real World, Barbie starts to realize how things are not always perfect but most importantly, how humans in the Real World show emotions. She has never seen anything like this but begins to realize how much she enjoys the Real World. She finds that instead of being the Barbie everyone believes to be perfect in Barbie World she can be a normal human with emotions in the Real World. These two worlds contrasted together portray Barbie as being a double. She’s perfect and flawless Barbie in Barbie World and an imperfect human with emotions in the Real World.
Not only does the movie lead to the idea of Barbie being a double, but Barbie toys themselves are almost all doubles of each other. There are so many Barbies that closely resemble each other but are slightly different. For examples there is Fashionista Barbie, Princess Barbie, Malibu Barbie, Career Barbie, and many more. With over a thousand different types, Barbies are most definitely doubles
