Prompt 1-3: Digital Culture

I’ll be honest, I’m not well versed on digital culture – it takes me many days (sometimes even weeks) to get caught up to speed on some of the viral memes that are floating around out there. However, I am very well versed in Twitter. I would say Twitter is definitely a piece of digital culture that everyone should at least be aware of. Twitter is a great space to connect with others, speak what is on your mind, and spread the word about things (although Elon Musk is starting to ruin it). For me, Twitter is a professional space where I can connect with other members of my professional community whether that be computer science or meteorology. For others it is a place where they can go to rant or spread awareness about something or even just shitpost. Things on Twitter tend to be seen by a lot of people. Sometimes tweets can even make it on the news if someone has a hot enough take on something (although putting hot takes out on Twitter can often lead to negative impacts). Sometimes people without a Twitter account can say something and it will still make its way to Twitter (whether it be something good or bad that was said). It’s definitely good to be aware of the platform, even if you don’t use it regularly (although it’s a very unique place and you never know what you might see!).

Preston, a plaform like Twitter is one level too big to really be responsive to my prompt. (A Tweet; or a famous poster; or something that trended one particular day on Twitter–any of those might work better.)

But what you say about the platform’s versatility (personal/professional/political) feels right to me. Developing that thinking in terms of a contrast between Twitter and OTHER platforms (Insta, or FB, or…?) might get you more specificity…
