Summer Solstice… August Augustness!

You may have noticed, our title is a clever little play on words, because we’re here to talk about the hottest day of the summer, and how everyone is celebrating it!

Regardless of class, everyone from both the East and West Eggs should take advantage of the beautiful fruits ripening this season. Whether charcuterie or cornucopia, fill your plates with the sweetest strawberries, the crunchiest cherries, the most fantastic figs, or if you’re feeling a little scandalous: some limes and pineapples for the most delectable cocktails!

“I love New York on summer afternoons when everyone’s away. There’s something very sensuous about it—overripe, as if all sorts of funny fruits were going to fall into your hands.” – J.B.

(Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, Chapter 7).

However, your plates shouldn’t be the only colorful things in your lives. Freshen up that wardrobe! Gone are the grays and beiges and jewel-tones of winter; whip out your pastels, neons, and fluorescents.

And for those of you that can afford it… White is in!

“As my train emerged from the tunnel into sunlight… the woman next to me perspired delicately for a while into her white shirtwaist…” – N.C.

“[The girls] lay upon an enormous couch, like silver idols weighing down their own white dresses against the singing breeze of the fans.” – N.C.

(Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, Chapter 7).

Perhaps fruits and fashion are too dull for you, and you’d like a summer activity indoors to escape the heat. Well, New York has no deficit of entertainment.

“Those big movies around Fiftieth Street are cool…” – J.B.

“…We were listening to the portentous chords of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March from the ballroom below.” – N.C.

(Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, Chapter 7).

Summer is the perfect time for a tropical honeymoon with your sweetheart, but if you’d rather beat the heat, head to Fiftieth Street for the hottest flicks of the summer.

The possibilities of summer are endless, but make sure to stay hydrated, and we’ll make sure to keep our gossip just as juicy!
