Punkin Pocahontas Jones

Yes, that’s really her name.

I would like to introduce Punkin Pocahontas Jones. She is a crucial member of the Jones family due to the fact that I am an only child. My parents are now empty nesters, which means Punkin gets to replace me in everyday tasks.

My family adopted Punkin from a shelter when I was in the fifth grade. I walked down the stairs at pick up time and there was my mom, standing there with the smallest animal I had ever seen. My little fifth grade brain fell in love with her right then and there. We brought her home that day to see how well she would get along with our much older dog and to our surprise they were perfect together. Our older dog took Punkin in like she was her own puppy and taught her everything she needed to know. This included not chewing on anything except toys, how to go to the bathroom where it was acceptable and how to know when someone in the family was upset and comfort them. It took some time but eventually Punkin had become extremely well-behaved. She was surprisingly quiet and a very picky eater, much like me. She will not eat French fries, candy or anything if it is not meat or cheese. On a serious note, she truly does know how to always make me feel better. When I’m upset, I’ll walk downstairs and sit on the couch and there she is, staring at me and wagging her tail. She is always happy which consequently rubs off on me without fail. I swear sometimes when I come back to OU, it’s harder to leave her than my own parents.
