OUDM

This year I got the privilege of being part of the OUDM executive team. I also was honored to be part of the Family Relations committee. The purpose of the OU Dance Marathon is to raise money for Miracle Families at the OU Children’s Hospital. This event has been going on for the past 27 years. After an interview process at the beginning of the academic year, the exec board is chosen. Throughout the following months we attended meetings every single Wednesday night. This also included tabling during push days to raise money in the union, WAM or South Oval. We sent out countless emails and numerous texts looking for donations and implored all of Greek life and the OU campus to join us in raising money. On the actual day of the dance marathon, after five hours of set up the previous night, it was time for the families to arrive. We set up games, had dance performances, raffle tickets and so much more for participants to do from 8am to 8pm. I stayed in the inspirations room, a special place for the kids and their families with bracelet making, note writing and painting. After the long day was done, we had a dance party before the big reveal. We raised $465,318.23 for the families at OU Childrens. Through OUDM my eyes were opened to not only how blessed I am and how much I take for granted, but also how happy these families are in the midst of trials and dark times. Everyone needs to live a little bit more like the Miracle Kids.
