Did you know? In the state of Texas you are not allowed to pick bluebonnet flowers. That is the state flower, but still. Personally, I think that is a wonderful thing. Thinking in a bigger picture sense such as on an eco-friendly scale. Maybe it should be illegal to pick any state flower or any wild flower. Natural beauty is something that is slowly dwindling away within our time. Soon enough, me and you might not be able to drive by empty land that lines I-35 from Oklahoma to Texas and onward through the great state. The world around us is slowly becoming all concrete and high rises, hotels and office buildings. It’s hard to make a distinction between progress that is needed and when it is depleting the land of its original purpose and beauty.
This blog post is not simply about bluebonnets, but more about how to know when enough is enough when it comes to expansion and progress. I’ve always found a deep and personal connection to myself when I am surrounded by nature. Open land is my favorite place to be and I think any philosophy behind wildflowers is amazing. My personal philosophy is that whether random flowers grow in a field all alone, in cracks between sidewalks, or beside a highway, they were all meant to be right where they sprouted. They still grew and became beautiful plants, but remained right where they were put and made the most of it. I worry that generations to come won’t be able to learn about such things because there won’t be any natural beauty left to learn about. Random bluebonnets can really make you think.
