Musical Review

I got to experience something truly special this past weekend. Never in my life have I driven home to Fort Worth, Texas and back within 24 hours. I never thought I would do that. However, last weekend was my high school’s spring musical and I had to go show my support as an alumni of the school and theater department.

That theater department got me through some really tough times and taught me much about myself and my confidence. I can wholeheartedly say I would not be who I am today with that experience and the people who did it with me. Going back to see the musical was extremely nostalgic. Everything from the parking lot to watching the actors do set changes reminded me of who I was a year ago today. They put on an amazing production of Roger and Hamersteins “Cinderella”. This gave me major flashbacks to my favorite musical I was ever in: The Little Mermaid. I beamed with pride as I watched the actors that were on that stage exude confidence and joy in doing their last performance ever. I remembered when they were tiny kids in middle schools and now they were leading ladies and men. At the end of the show, the seniors took their final bow and I burst into tears. They gave speeches to the director, lighting and sound as well as the conductor of the orchestra. They worked in harmony to put on an amazing show with beautiful costumes and elaborate sets and amazing singing and acting. After the show, I got to walk around and hug all of the actors and express how proud I was of them. I am so proud to be from a school that might be small but has long lasting relationships and a long standing legacy.
