Corpus Christi Catholic Church

For a Media Writing and Storytelling assignment, I got to travel to Oklahoma City to partake in a Catholic Church service. The assignment was to take part in a cultural or religious experience that is different from how you were raised. I am not Catholic, nor is any member of my immediate family so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. My roommate is Catholic though so I asked her for some advice before I left and she was very helpful. I wanted to make sure I did not accidently do anything disrespectful or incorrect without knowing. I was extremely nervous to attend a religious service I had never experienced before. I drove to Oklahoma City with a classmate and the church was gorgeous. There was a lot of artwork on the walls picturing Jesus, but the most beautiful parts were the stained glass windows everywhere and the giant painted scene of the crucifixion in the front and center. The service was different from my upbringing because there were many hymns and scripted responses as well as a lot of time spent kneeling. I did my best to follow the crowd to know what to do while also taking notes for my assignment. The message portion was also fairly short compared to my non-denominational church at home where the message is the majority of the service. Overall, the people were extremely friendly, and I learned new things that I believe will help me become and more well-rounded and better person.
