Radiation’s Range

The effects of radiation on any living being have devastating results. Reactions range from every kind of cancer to damaging the physical DNA. While relating radiation to its effects, the most commonly thought of causes are buried in our history, specifically during WWII. However, despite WWII being over 75 years ago, its consequences have persistently reverberated through nature. One example of this is sea turtles in Hawaii.

Buried History

During WWII, the United States literally buried its history of tested radioactive waste from the war in a concrete tomb. Yet, radiation seeped out of containment over time and affected the wildlife. Attempts to clean up this radiation only resulted in stirring it up more. Sea turtles hold on to the consequences of radiation in their shells throughout the years.

Lasting Lessons

While history cannot be undone, the future restrictions of using radiation should be stressed for the good of people and every living thing. The sea turtles are just one of the many examples concerning long-term destruction.
