In retrospect, if you could travel back in time, what advice would you give yourself on the first day of class?
- Use speech to text. Laptops are the enemy. Pen and paper are the enemy.
What, if anything, would you do differently?
- See question one.
What about the course resonated with or affected you the most? the least?
- I really enjoyed exercising my meta-analysis skills. Adding another layer really helped me learn to appreciate media in a more well-rounded way.
- Wasn’t really a fan of The Great Gatsby and the Zombies. I thought it was pretty contrived.
How could this course be more interesting, accessible, challenging, or etc. for undergraduate students?
- The blog posts. Reduce them. Please. The value of them in theory is respectable and understandable. But every week is an unnecessary burden tacked onto an already fast-paced curriculum.
What have you realized or discovered about your writing self?
- Not great at starting conversations. I’m better at responding.
- Anger/annoyance can be very motivating for writing essays.
What have you realized or discovered about your student self?
- I was diagnosed with anxiety for a reason.
What have you realized or discovered or evolved about your writing process?
- Brain to text pathway is obstructed. Speech as an intermediary is needed.
What will you take with you? What will you leave behind?
- I’ve learned to appreciate The Great Gatsby both as a piece of literature and its contextual place in our society.
