Parent Trap

My mom once showed me a movie when I was younger that was funny, creative, and definitely resonated with me as I got older. Parent Trap came out in 2003 and starred Lindsay Lohan as both Hallie Parker and Annie James. The premise was that two twins split up at birth because their parents had divorced eventually meet each other and conspire to bring the parents back together. The twin daughters eventually are successful and the parents remarry and everyone lives happily ever after. This movie was mainly a comedy but also showed the uplifting story of a family being reunited in the face of total uncertainty. The doppelgänger aspect was the twins both being identical as they switched place and the parents didn’t even find out till the very end. Lindsay Lohan plays the role of both Hallie and Annie perfectly, as she looked the exact same but played two similar but different sisters in each others lives. Both of the sisters were thrust into very different lifestyles with their opposite parent and attempted to reunite the couple with their identities concealed. The parents both thought that they had their version of the twins just as usual but in fact they were swapped for nearly the entire movie. This is a really cool and interesting example of a double and it came from Erich Kästner’s 1949 German novel “Lisa and Lottie”. This movie was very successful in the box office bringing in ninety two million on a fifteen million dollar budget. Most people you will ask have seen and enjoyed this film, remembering it as a classic.
