“Us” (2019)

I saw this movie in theaters and left honestly extremely shaken up. The movie “Us” by former comedian turned director and writer, Jordan Peele, created a whole new concept of horror. The premise in this movie was that the government made lookalikes of the entire population, made them live underground, and experimented to try and create mind control over the real versions. Well, the idea did not workout and the people on the surface were in control of the people under the earth. This caused much pain to many of the characters and was not a good nor humane way to live. This all changed when at a young age a little girl, Adelaide, is switched with her doppelgänger below and is determined to lead the underground versions of civilization to rise up and destroy the tether between them. This tether was the mind control link due to whatever cloning technology they used. The doubles of everyone used a long pair of gold scissors to symbolize cutting the link between the two civilizations. They eventually are successful and the doppelgängers rise up and kill all of the original people except for a few remaining survivors. This movie showed the use of double to a whole new light and creates fear in the individual and the age old question could you win in a fight against yourself. This movie left me terrified and racking my brain to what I would do in this situation and how I would combat evil copies of myself, friends, and family.
