If you’ve never read or even watched the movie The Great Gatsby, you might be lost and confused by the title of today’s blog. Having said that, up until last week I would have been confused by the title myself, but now I have read The Great Gatsby, so I get the reference. I picked “Green Light” as my title because this tends to be a focus of discussion amongst those who have read the book and whether it is of any significance or not. That’s the big question of todays blog, does the green light mean anything? Well to me I think it has some importance. The book references Gatsby looking out at the green light and almost getting lost in it. Or at least that’s how I understood it. I think that the green light signifies Gatsby looking out to what things could have been or could be. Which I think boils down to Daisy Buchanan, the girl he longs for and has almost reinvented himself for after years of being separated. Gatsby knew how much social status was important to Daisy and so all those years they were apart he spent gaining more status and money and really just reinventing himself and I believe he thought if he had all the material things he could then have the perfect girl, which he thought was her. So to me that green light at which he gazes upon stands for what his life could be and what he desires. I could be wrong and Mr. F.Scott Fitzgerald could have intended it for another reason or even no reason at all, but that was how I interpreted that green light, which can cause some debate. Now I ask you, what do you think the green light stands for?

I liked the way you explained the green light and my favorite line was “green light at which he gazes upon stands for what his life could be and what he desires.” I completely agree with you on what the green light stands for. Gatsby continued to try to find his green light which happened to be Daisy. He believed if he had Daisy then he would have everything.
