As you may have guessed from the title, today’s post will be about the one and only Daisy Buchanan. I’m sure many have their opinions on her, some may be good and some may be bad. Do you think she’s this sweet little innocent woman, whose bad traits are overshadowed by her husband Tom, who not many people care for? Well lets dive in and see.

One of her most famous lines in the novel is “I hope she’ll be a fool, that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” (Fitzgerald). This is Daisy talking about her daughter and what she hopes she becomes in the future. But is this what Daisy is, a “beautiful little fool”? Is she blissfully unaware of what is happening around her or what she is doing and the consequences of her actions? Or is she fully aware of what she is doing?
Daisy has this romantic affair with Jay Gatsby, all while using mostly Nick as a cover, so her husband doesn’t find out. Yes I know Tom is having affairs of his own and has his own issues but today we are talking about Daisy. Then when Tom does find out and she drives off for home with Gatsby she kills a person and just keeps driving and ultimately lets Gatsby take the fall for her. She even leads Gatsby on, whether it was intentional or not. Daisy stays with Tom because she is concerned about her status and life of luxury, which is more stable with Tom than if she were with Gatsby.
So do you think Daisy knew everything she was doing and had everything calculated out, like never intending to leave Tom and her status behind for Gatsby, or is she as she hoped for her daughter, “a beautiful little fool”?
