Happy Friday! Some really fun things have been going on in my life lately! At OU, I am in the Delta Gamma Sorority. A major goal within sororities is to hold fun philanthropic events in order to raise money for a certain cause. For Delta Gamma, our philanthropy is called “Service for Sight.” Our goal is to raise money in order to help those who are almost or completely blind or suffer with sight diseases. Last Wednesday, we held our first philanthropy event called “Anchorsplash.” For this event, girls within the sorority created teams with the fraternities on campus and coached them to do a synchronized swimming routine, a relay race, and belly flop contest, then people could buy tickets in order to watch them compete. I was a coach for Pi Kappa Theta, so the other coaches and I choreographed a dance inspired by Napoleon Dynamite and made them wear jorts and wigs. They did such a great job, I am so proud of them for showing up, wearing the correct costumes, and remembering their routine! It takes a lot of courage to dance in front of people, and I am so grateful they were willing to do so in order to help raise money for our event. For the other teams, they did great as well! It was definitely a tough competition because everyone wanted to win. However, Pi Kappa Theta did get 3rd place in the relay! Overall, the event was a huge success with a lot of turnout. In total, we raised over $10,000 plus made tons of great friendships and memories at the same time!
