Blog Post 1-2

One thing that is different among various groups of people is the way we as a society communicate. This can be looked at through generations. Social media can be examined in order to see what is trendy for various age groups and generations. When I go on my phone, the majority of the time I am on Snapchat, Twitter, or YouTube. I go on Snapchat to talk to friends and it allows for immediate and constant communication with them. I use Twitter to find out what is happening in the world, whether it be newsworthy or sports related. It is a direct link to pop culture and I am constantly interconnected with this information. I use YouTube to watch videos and pass time. All of these things include me being interconnected with millions of other people, watching and doing similar things. Technology has allowed for this to happen. It can be considered a use or an abuse for sure. Many other teens and young adults do things similar to this. The older generation uses Facebook to keep in touch with others. They are interconnected with them, however it is different. It seems as though the generation my parents are in, are not constantly on their social media accounts. A vast majority of teens and young adults are. This is because we have had technology slammed in front of our faces since we were born. Menand states “The reason we have generations is that we have change, not the other way around” (Menand 3). The way my generation was raised has impacted the way we live. We are constantly abusing the forms of media we have and it has definitely had an impact on our communication skills as well as the way we connect. It is hard to unconnect as a result.
