In today’s society, most people are typically on their phones or in some way connected to technology through a smart device at all times. Whether it is people working on a computer researching, someone taking a break and scrolling through their phone, or a person getting a notification from their watch, we are all connected to technology. I myself, like many others, have found this is not good for my mental health and well being. Constantly needing a phone or computer for approval is something that should not be happening. Without this connection, I feel lost in a way. However, the element of technology has brought something else. Social skills have been lost and many people have a hard time paying attention during simple conversations. We have all seen it or done it. “Oh, I’m sorry, I was reading something. Can you say that again?” With this loss of social skills and inability to focus brings anxiety. Anxiety numbers are up across the board exponentially along with ADD and ADHD. With anxiety brings worry. People need to disconnect from the internet and put their devices down or else communication as a whole will start to look a lot different. If this continues, it will result in an even larger disconnect between each other than we have currently and we will have an even greater dependency on technology than we already do. In my eyes, that is a scary thought.
How will communication look if the current technology use stays the same or increases?
