Beginning his media career in 1998, Jimmy Fallon has taken the television and media industry by storm. Starring on The Tonight Show as well as Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Fallon has become one of the most well known and successful talk show hosts and comedians in the world.
Jimmy Fallon attended the College of St. Rose, located in Albany New York, however he did not complete his degree. He left school and headed to Los Angeles with a dream of pursuing comedy. Within a few years, Fallon made his media breakthrough as a cast member on Saturday Night Live in September of 1998. From there, his professional media career kicked off. Since then, Fallon has made appearances on countless films and T.V shows and on February 17, 2014, Jimmy Fallon became a permanent host on The Tonight Show.
Since then Jimmy Fallon has had the opportunity to host and interview thousands of celebrities on both Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show. In an interview done by USA Today, Fallon discusses the “coolest thing he has ever done” which was sing the original version of”Yesterday” by the Beatles with Paul McCartney. As a huge Beatles fan, that truly does sound like the coolest thing a person could do while at work.
Although I myself am not interested in pursuing a career in the creative media industry, as a journalism major, I marvel at the career Jimmy Fallon has created for himself. With no professional degree and no prior experience, Jimmy Fallon was able to use his unique abilities and talent in comedy to earn him great respect and opportunity in the media industry. Something that many media professionals struggle to accomplish is creating something that will keep viewers interested and coming back for more, however Fallon has done just that and more. Jimmy Fallon made a career for himself and exceeded all expectations, simply by just being himself.
To me, Jimmy Fallon has a model career. He is able to be authentically himself and people all around the world tune in to watch his talk shows. He is able to exercise the talents that he excels at, as well as gets to be completely creative with his shows. He has shown his viewers that it is possible to create a career and something that people enjoy simply by just being true to yourself. Wherever my path in the media industry takes me, I will always remember that the number one most important thing is to be true to yourself, your personality and your values, rather than conform to what society wants you to be. Jimmy Fallon and his admirable career and legacy in the creative media, T.V and film industry will outlast time and continue to inspire thousands more.
