November 28, 2021 feels like it was 5 years ago. When in reality it was only 2 1/2 months ago. And while I am over and have moved on from Lincoln Riley taking the head coaching job at the University of Southern California and taking OU players and recruits with him, I haven’t had the chance to write about it or put my thoughts out in writing. So let’s get into it.
First things first, I have no issues with Lincoln taking the job at USC. He knew that it was the right move for him to make so I have no issues with him taking that job. The only problems that I have with Lincoln is how he took the job and the stuff that he has been saying and doing after the fact. For him to say that he made a life changing decision in 5 hours after the Bedlam game is a complete lie. I have always been under the impression that he was checked out of this season after OU lost at Baylor. Which is such a shame given all of the talent that this years team had. But, neither here nor there. The season has come and gone and it was a massive disappointment. Now the issue that I have with Lincoln is that he is going on this media tour acting like he hasn’t taken players and recruits with him from OU. He is making the claims that USC “took them from the transfer portal. Not OU.” Yeah, ok Lincoln. Whatever you say buddy.
I think Lincoln leaving is going to work out great for OU. I love the Brent Venables hire and I strongly believe that he is going to be a great head coach. These new OU teams are going to be stronger, faster, and better coached than any Lincoln Riley team which is exactly what OU needs for the move to the SEC. So, Lincoln, enjoy your time in Southern California. We’re perfectly happy here in Norman with Brent and the future looks brighter than ever.
