Sooner new hires

My favorite new hire we’ve made so far this year is Ben Arbuckle. Ben Arbuckle was the offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach for Washington State for the past two years. He has produced two of the most dominant quarterbacks over the past years in Cam Ward (projected to go #1 overall in this year’s draft) and John Mateer (was in the Heisman race last year and is now our quarterback). Under Arbuckle, Washington State averaged 36.62 points per game, while OU averaged an abysmal 24 points per game with a much more talented offense. With Arbuckle having the same quarterback and much more explosive players to work with, our offense should be extremely good this year. Another huge hire we made is Jim Nagy as our GM. With NIL becoming such a substantial factor within the college football scene, teams are hiring GMs so coaches don’t have to be the ones to negotiate with players. Jim Nagy has 18 years of experience in NFL personnel departments and has spent the last 7 years as the executive director of the Senior Bowl. About 30% of the NFL’s first-round selections over the past 7 years have played in the Senior Bowl. Everywhere Jim Nagy has gone, he’s been very successful. He will be a big-time help in being competitive with NIL deals for the future. Another hire we made is Nate Dreiling, who is our new inside linebackers coach. Dreiling used to be a defensive coordinator at Utah State and New Mexico state, so he has plenty of experience on the defensive side of the ball. He will be working with Kip Lewis, Kobie Mckinzie, Sammy Omosigho, and Jaren Kanak. Not even being biased, this is one of the most talented linebacker rooms in the nation, and I’m curious to see how well Dreiling does with them.
