Performance

Katharine and I had been in a poetry class in high school, the set up in our class reminded me a lot of that. We each got up in front of one another and would read our poems. In our class I really enjoyed the piece where he played guitar in between reading lines of the National Anthem. It was a kind of performance we hadn’t really covered in class and I liked the way it worked. I liked that it could make you hear something differently and I enjoyed the incorporation of music. As far as my own performance I haven’t gotten as comfortable as Katharine has with preforming, but I do enjoy reading my work. I feel like it’s difficult to read poetry and I like being able to put inflections where I had imaged them and showing that side to an audience. I’m reading it to them as I hoped it would be read, although I’m sure there is beauty in the way people read without guidance as well.
