Environment of My Classroom

As everyone already knows, I want to be a Kindergarten Teacher after graduation. With that being said also comes the question of what I want the environment of my classroom to be depicted as. I want my students to feel seen in my classroom. I want my students to feel comfortable enough to raise their hands and ask questions when they are confused on the material. I want my students to also feel safe in my classroom and know that I am an adult figure in their life that they can trust. This can include one or more students coming to me needing a snack because they didn’t eat breakfast that morning. This can include one or more of my students coming to me needing their hair brushed / fixed because their mom or dad did not do it that morning. Whatever my students need and or want, I hope they find the trust in me, not only as their teacher, but as an adult figure in their life, to come to me, knowing that I will do everything in my power to ensure they succeed to the best of their abilities, not only in their educational journey, but in their lives as a whole.

To ensure that this environment is seen in my classroom, I have a few things that I will be including. I will include a basket of snacks that the students can have at any time (with asking me before grabbing anything, to ensure they don’t grab anything that they are allergic to). I will also include hair supplies so that if one or more students needs their hair done in the morning, I am prepared. I also want to include my own version of a ‘secret jar’ that I have seen a lot of on Pinterest. A ‘secret jar’ is a jar, you can decorate it if you want to, that students can put something that they wrote in the jar. This can be something that they simply just wanted to tell you but not out loud, or something they didn’t feel comfortable sharing in front of the other students.
