1st Day at Ou Baseball 2/25/25

This week I had my first opportunity to get out and watch the Sooners play in person. On Tuesday they played Texas Southern here at L. Dale Mitchell where they came out to a commanding win. The offense looked really good for the Sooners as they tallied 15 runs in 7 innings with 2 HR and a collection of hits to go in the box score. The pitching looked a little worrying still but I don’t believe the best of the starting rotation was being used as Texas Southern is a weaker team from a weaker conference. Jaxon Willits had a really good offensive performance which is a good sign as the pitching will continue to improve going forward into the season. The Sooners also claimed a number 16 national ranking after the past weekend with some really good early season wins over Oregon St and Virginia. I think the season looks promising which could be a highlight for Ou athletics in our first being SEC where growing pains are pretty apparent in Football and Basketball.

In my opinion the game was really fun to go out and watch. Tuesdays are “2 dollar” at the stadium so all the concessions from hotdogs to beer are 2$. You can really see people taking advantage of the 2$ beer from all the beer towers being built up along the netting even thought the game ended in only 7 innings from run rule. If your looking for something fun to do during the week or the weekends or just looking to kill time, student admission is free at the gate, all you have to do if show a student ID. I would really recommend getting out to a game because there really fun to watch especially if your into baseball. The Sooners play at home all weekend, just check the OU athletics page to see the game times and head over to the stadium with some friends, or not… and watch the Sooners continue their early season success.

I definitely agree that going to games at OU is a fun way to kill some time. Although, me personally, I prefer going to softball games. OU softball games are an experience that I feel all students at OU should get an opportunity to experience!

Yeah for sure here at OU, especially in the past few years, softball has become a large part of the athletics culture here. I think Im gonna try to go to a couple softball games in the next few months but coming from a baseball background I naturally gravitate to it.

Hi Nick! I sometimes wonder if OK spring weather and early baseball don’t exactly go well together. I have been meaning to check out games for YEARS (like most old dudes, I appreciate the slow pace of baseball

Beginning of the season is kind of hit or miss with the weather for sure. Even when I was playing I didn’t want to be at a lot of the early season games cause its still cold and unenjouyable to be out there for so long. The end of March and April are perfect weather for baseball and theres a lot of big conference games by that point in the season so the attendance defenitley rises quite a bit.
