The one thing that sticks out to me in this world in terms of achieving dreams we set out is how possible it is to reach. The phrase that money cant buy happiness has been shown to be only true a small fraction of the time. One of my favorite things I like to do with my time is march in organizations called DCI and WGI. My role is a part of the drumline and these groups travel across the country doing shows almost year round. The biggest thing that blocks people from participating in this is money. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford this activity but as for most people, it it near impossible or very risky from a financial standpoint. All that being said, the one thing that blocks people from their dreams is financial obligations. With rent, school, insurances, car payments, gas, and food, it requires a large amount of stability to reach life goals.

In reference to the Northwestern Mutual commercial, the man had a dream to run across the world. Had he not all of the money he has saved, he could not travel to all of these places to fulfill his desire to run. When someone doesn’t have the same commodities, responsibilities, or even upbringing as someone like that man, they are put in a spot where dreams become out of reach. I know people who have had to give up on their wishes because they simply “could not afford it”. It is so sad to live in a world where money rules all. Now so more than ever, the economy is becoming harsher and harsher. The minimum wage remains partly an issue, as does the continuously decreasing value of the dollar.

What to do about it, I wish I knew. Economics and business is not something I am particularly strong in, but I do know a problem when I see it. A dream should not be restricted because of someones class/economic status. While I do believe that people should still work hard in life and have a sense of drive, it should not be so excruciatingly difficult that the road to the final destination is unclear. All I hope is that a new generation can help the world steer into a place that is economically safe for more people that work hard and truly attempt to achieve their dreams.
