Hello! I’m Alejandro. I’m an aerospace engineering major, veteran, writer, and language nerd trying to get back into the swing of college after a nearly six-year hiatus. In that time, I have travelled all across the country (mostly for work), learned Japanese as a third language, and wrote a science-fiction book I will likely rewrite and revise until I’m seventy. Most recently, I was deployed to southern Somalia serving as a fire-support non-commissioned officer for an airborne company. Suffice to say, my early twenties have been the most eventful (and chaotic) years of my life thus far. Returning to college with a completely different major than I had originally planned for marks the beginning for another chapter in my life. One I am very excited for.
Art and writing has been a very important part of my life since I was a child. For that reason, I would like my blog to view the advances of generative AI from an artist’s perspective. I am particularly interested in the ethics of using artists’ and writers’ work as a dataset to train AI models as well as how it will affect finding work in those fields. That being said, my opinion on AI has not been fully formed due to this still being a novel technology. Am I apprehensive? Yes. Am I completely unwilling to explore the potential benefits this technology might have for writers and artists alike? No, not at all. I would very much like AI to be a net-positive for humanity and the arts.

Hello Alejandro, I think that you have a very interesting background and I think that you could tell some interesting stories about your past and your future. I also think that your interests in art and writing is very interesting as well as having a book that you will re-write and revise until you are 70 is very interesting as well. I think that you have some very interesting ideas in your blog and I would be interested in seeing where this goes in your future blogs.
