The Grammy Winning Record Made Using AI

The Grammys just took place yesterday and there’s allot of surprises that came up during the event. One notable surprise was The Beatles winning an award, making it their 8th time winning the award. The band won the award for Best Rock Performance for the song “Now and Then.” The Beatles now remain with only two of the original 4 members, yet have still managed to create a Grammy winning song. This is all thanks to the help of AI, which helped in cleaning up old recordings from Lennon, a previous member of The Beatles who has now passed.

When the song was first released back in late 2023 there was allot of backlash received in large part to the use of AI. However, it’s important to note that Lennon’s part of the song was not artificially synthesized, but only cleaned up with the help of AI. As for the specific AI used to curate the song the band got help from film-maker Peter Jackson, who developed machine learning technology. This type of AI is specialized to isolate and clean up recordings, which was used on Lennon’s recordings.

I think that the use of AI on a song that just received a Grammy’s award is interesting and open to debate. While some might argue that people are starting to value artificial songs and degrade authenticity, I believe that this provides an example of how AI can be used as a tool to create a song that is less choppy and more clean.

  1. What do other music fans/bloggers think about the Beatles? It seems to me that, even as new music in the “rock” style becomes less and less relevant every year, the Beatles remain somehow relevant–but why?
