How Electrifying Have the OKC Thunder Been So Far?

With the NBA season heading into the All-Star Break, signifying the end of the first half of the season, there is allot to break down about the OKC Thunder. This team has made a dramatic shift within the league, catapulting from being second to last in standing to tying the best record in the league within the span of 3 years. After making the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 12 years, fans all around have high expectations for the team as play off positions are beginning to be solidified.

As we begin to take a look into the team so far, it’s obvious that the team would not be where they are without the MVP runner-up Shai Gilgeous Alexander. After a little rough start to the season, averaging over 5 points under his average points for each game last season, Shai has proven why he remains to be a superstar in the league, bumping up his averages to 32.1 points. Meanwhile, his counterpart Jaylen Williams has pitched in an average 21 points per game, proving to show potential to be a star in the league one day.

Other players coming off the bench have proven their spot on the roster, with some notable player being Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins who have showed bursts of high-level performances throughout the season. What is important to note is that our downfall in the playoffs last season came from a lack of scoring ability and rebounding. With high performances from the bench, and the addition of a 12 rebound per game Isaiah Hartenstein there is allot of momentum going into the post season this year, and even higher exception.

  1. The Thunder’s rise over the past few seasons has been nothing short of remarkable, and you do a great job capturing the excitement and high expectations surrounding the team as they push toward the playoffs. I like how you point out the crucial role that role players like Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins have played. Great blog I will definitely tune back in!

  2. I am so excited to see what the Thunder are capable of as the season grows. Already having broken records and expectations, I hope they can catch the playoff in stride. With so much young talent, most of them will not be used to the atmosphere and crunch-time feeling, as is what happened last year in the playoffs against the Mavericks. I love this article, but I wish it would include a specific instance of a play or game this season, which would push it up to the next level.

  3. SGA is an OKC goat these past few seasons. Cool to see that the Thunder have turned it around ever since trading Westbrook they were kind of in their dark ages if you will but they’ve never been more competitive than this year. Also Thunder tickets have been really cheap all season so its something to do during the week if you want to make a blog post about going to a game.

  4. I’ve been to two Thunder games so far this season, and they’re remarkable to watch. One of the games was when we played the Rockets the other night, and Shai dropped 50. It was insane, our team is so physical on defense and so efficient when it comes to scoring. I’m excited to see where the Thunder goes in the next few years, especially with all the draft picks we have. My one concern is that Shai is going to take an insane amount of money to sign for next season, especially without an agent.
