From all the characters in The Great Gatsby, who is the one, in your own opinion, “the bad guy”. After all none of the characters are perfect but some are liked more than others and some are definitely not liked more than others. So if you had to choose one of them to be the ultimate worst in your opinion, who would it be?
Would it be Jay Gatsby himself? The guy who we are even sure if we really know who he is. All we know is that he knew Daisy before she was married and now he is having an affair with her and trying to take her away from her husband Tom and is using Nick and Jordan to do so? But could it Daisy? The married woman having an affair. Who is also so consumed with status. And not to mention killed a woman (Myrtle) and left the scene, letting her lover (Gatsby) take the blame.
Or is it Tom Buchanan? Tom who is married to Daisy but is having an affair of his own, with Myrtle Wilson. He’s also not the nicest person and is kind of a brute and has some aggression issues. Then again maybe it’s Myrtle, she’s a married woman herself who is having an affair with a married man. Talk about a tangled web.
Maybe it’s Nick Carraway, our narrator himself. The one who helped Gatsby and Daisy start their affair. And who also seems to hold judgement to others. Is he the worst character? It could be Jordan? Is she to much of a gossip or into herself that you can’t help but not like her?
I think maybe there is an obvious choice but when you get down to it, I think it’s a little bit more complicated then it seems. But at the end of the day, I think we all have that one character who we just think is the absolute worst, so who is yours?

To me Tom is the obvious villain of the story from the point of nicks love of a Gatsby because Tom stands in the way of what Gatsby wants.

The obvious choice is Tom, but an exciting point would be Daisy because she used both Tom and Gatsby for different things. Also, when Gatsby dies, she seems not to care and just moves on with her life, which is a very selfish thing to do.
