Final RP Proposal

Exhibit: Texts/documents that you propose to analyze.

A source that I plan to analyze is “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Young Children: Redeveloping the Five Big Ideas Framework” by Jiahong Su and Weipeng Yang. After my conversation with Professor L about the use of robotics while teaching children, I am interested in seeing where Jiahong and Weipeng go with this topic. I am specifically interested in where they go with this topic as they state, “Intelligent robotics can enhance children’s social interactions, making them more willing to engage in activities and collaborate with other learners (Druga et al., 2019; Kewalramani et al., 2021).” I am interested in this because from my perspective, my first question is, would the robots look more human-like or like a typical robot? Would there still be a human teacher present or only the robot? With this statement, I have a lot of questions.

Argument: Sources you, well, are arguing with! Of course, this can’t be reduced to “agree/disagree”; you will also be refining, extending, complicating – many argumentative relationships are possible.

There are also some statements in “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Young Children: Redeveloping the Five Big Ideas Framework.” Specifically, the same statement that I gave above. I say this because for some children, utilizing robots is not the best way for them to learn. Secondly, how could robots teach the material in a better way in comparison to a human teacher? There are many perspectives that you can look at from this statement alone.

I think your topic is very interesting. I am also interested in how intelligent robots can enhance young children’s social interaction, as I bet most people would assume this to have the opposite effect, making kids more anti-social as they rely on technology. My question is likely the same as yours, which is how exactly does it work? How could technology/robots ever enhance social skills instead of simply just having the children talk to each other, face-to-face.
